FRESNO, Calif. – During Armed Forces Night on July 2 at Fresno State Soccer Stadium, Central Valley Fuego FC hosted South Georgia Tormenta FC. In the first half, Fuego FC had multiple attempts on goal by Villyan Bijev, Victor Falck, Maxi Schenfeld, and Christian Chaney. Unfortunately, the home side was unlucky and unable to score. The visiting side had a couple of chances in the first half, one strike struck the crossbar and another was just off target.
The second half proved to be more difficult for Fuego FC as Tormenta’s Gabriel Cabral capitalized on a rebound following a free-kick. Newly signed, Jose Villarreal came on and nearly scored from a free-kick. The effort was there, but in the end, it was not enough.

Team Perspective
“The team tonight did a lot of right things. The team created a lot of chances which is the hardest thing to do,” said Martin Vasquez, head coach. “The team did not have the killer instinct to score one of those many opportunities. It’s clear that we need to improve taking our chances well and we need to improve giving up soft goals. We’re all disappointed with losing at home.”
“Disappointing not to get a result. I thought we played well, especially in the first half. We were unlucky not to score,” said Mitch North. “I’m really happy to get my first start in the USL despite the loss and really thankful that the head coach gave me an opportunity.”
“It’s unfortunate that we couldn’t get the three points. We came out strong in first half, had our chances but we just couldn’t put one away,” said Diego Casillas. “They took advantage of their chances and were able to score. That’s soccer. Now we focus on the next one.”
“Clearly disappointed to come away from the game with zero points. We apologize to the fans and everyone who has been supporting us along the way,” said Jordan Chavez. “Trust me no one in that locker room is happy with the run of form we are in right now, but we will continue to work hard day in and day out to make sure we get it right.”
“Disappointing result. We have to find a way to be more consistent. We did well building out of the back but lacked a bit of quality and creativity in the final third,” said Villyan Bijev. “We did well to create some chances but weren’t able to put any away. I think their goal was a preventable one.”
