FRESNO, Calif. – The Central Valley Fuego FC took on Chattanooga Red Wolves SC on their home turf on August 3 at Fresno State Soccer Stadium. This was the third match between these two teams from just this season. The last time these two teams went head to head it was at Fresno State and the Red Wolves won 2-0.
In the first half, Ofek Antman had two crucial saves. Both teams had their fair exchange of yellow cards. Neither team had a lot of success scoring. Diego Casillas received a red card just before halftime which didn’t improve their chances for the next half with Fuego FC playing down a player.
It was a mostly a quiet start to the second half and Fuego FC was holding it down despite losing a starter. But in the 74th minute, Chattanooga took advantage of the 10v11. Andrés Hernández made a goal and taking the lead. Fuego FC had multiple opportunities to tie the game but just could not find the back of the net. In stoppage time Fuego FC earned a PK taken by Christian Chaney. Unfortunately the goal went just wide and the visitors took home the three points.

TEAM PERSPECTIVE
“I thought tonight’s match against Chattanooga was very similar to the previous two matches. Both teams tried to impose their style of play, we both stuck to our game plan and we both came into the match ready to compete,” said head coach Martin Vasquez. “Our guys played their hearts out with ten men. It was too bad that in the end they couldn’t get rewarded with at least a draw.”
“It is a tough result. It was an even first half with opportunities for both teams. Then with the red card the game changed in their favor. We had opportunities to tie the game but could not put them away,” said Maxi Schenfeld. “I have the feeling that 11v11 could have been a different game for us. Now there is no time to feel sorry, we have a game in three days and we need to focus on Omaha.”
“I felt like in the first half it was a close game for both teams; both had moments in the game. Then in the second half, with the red card, I think it affected us and we were chasing with a man down, but the effort was there,” said Alexis Cerritos. “I feel like we gave it our all and we got unlucky at the end with the PK. We created good opportunities and kept pushing despite being a man down.”
